Annual Street Wise Boulder Mural Festival

Street Wise Arts is excited to announce the fourth year of the Street Wise Boulder Mural Festival from September 29 through October 2. Over the past three years, the annual ARTivism festival has installed more than 85 murals throughout the city of Boulder with the mission to unite communities through art and activism, facilitate equitable representation of diverse cultures and identities in public art, and encourage discussions about social justice and community resilience. 

The 2022 festival aims to integrate augmented reality (AR) and digital collaborations to enhance artist and audience experiences by deepening visual storytelling and expanding audience engagement through the digital realm. This new media allow artists to strengthen storytelling and audiences to explore content and subject matter, ultimately amplifying and creating conversations regarding important social justice movements, human rights, and diverse identities. 

This year’s muralists, as well as previous muralists, will have the opportunity to activate their murals with AR. Street Wise Boulder plans to offer a series of artist workshops about how to create AR layers, including information about software and platforms accessible to artists at all levels. For muralists who cannot create their own AR layers, the festival will provide paid support for collaborations with digital artists. Street Wise Boulder will also feature digital installations and projection mapping on select murals/buildings.

Street Wise Boulder is a free event for all ages held throughout the city of Boulder. Panels, workshops, and community events will take place in conjunction with the mural festival.

Call For Walls - Business and property partners with high visibility walls in the downtown and central Boulder area are also encouraged to participate in the 2022 Street Wise Boulder mural festival. Private residential properties that are highly visible and publicly accessible will also be considered. Call For Artists - Street Wise Boulder invites artists and muralists from diverse backgrounds who are interested in creating a mural or installation in a festival setting to apply. Applications begin June 1, 2022. Visit www.streetwiseboulder.com for more information.
