The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as the ACA or more informally as Obamacare, became law on March 23, 2010, initiating the most significant changes in the U.S. health care system since the establishment of Medicare. The goals of the law are to help improve the quality and accessibility of health care, and thereby help millions of Americans live healthier lives.
