How to use Market Research to Size and Understand Market Opportunities

Unless a prospective market is well-defined and sizable, putting a number on it can be challenging.  An emerging market can also be very dynamic with numerous players, revenue models and conflicting information.  This presentation looks at ways to analyze both market data and qualitative information:

  • The ins and outs of finding, evaluating, and utilizing secondary market information
  • How to build a model, using a case study of a market sizing exercise
  • Ways to use competitive information and market insights for go-to-market strategies

This presentation will be immediately useful for any business building an investor pitch or business plan for funding.  It is geared for individuals from both early stage companies needing to quantify (and understand) the markets for their products, as well as from existing companies seeking to leverage information and weigh options for growth.

Ruth Janjic is a marketing generalist with deep experience conducting secondary industry research, marketing analysis and strategy work. Ruth started her career in sales and marketing for one of the first Apple retailers, followed by a stint in high-growth technology firms, including Qualcomm. Ruth has since spent hundreds of hours researching the strategies of a broad range of industries, including technology, publishing, retail, and professional services.  More recently, she added not-for-profit organizations and small businesses to her knowledge base and enjoys helping them with their marketing challenges.  Ruth holds an M.B.A. from the University of Washington and a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire.
