Name: Jake Schepps Quintet featuring Matt Flinner
Date: February 27, 2015
Time: 7:30 PM - 11:55 PM MST
Event Description:

The stringband instrumentation of banjo, mandolin, guitar, violin and bass—canonized as the quintessential bluegrass combo when Earl Scruggs teamed up with Bill Monroe in 1945—is rewired, rebooted and re-contextualized by the Jake Schepps Quintet on their new album "Entwined." The album features newly commissioned long-form works by composers hailing from the contemporary classical world (Marc Mellits and Matt McBane) and mandolinist-composer Matt Flinner helping to bridge the genre gap with a monumental new four-movement work rooted in the worldly new acoustic aesthetic. The band features Jake Schepps (banjo), Matt Flinner (mandolin), Ross Martin (guitar), Ryan Drickey (violin) and the indomitable Eric Thorin (bass). From the vantage point of the adventurous banjo player and arranger Jake Schepps as well as his fellow travelers in the vibrant new acoustic scene, the horizon for stringband music is infinite. This CD release concert will include selections from all of these works, in addition to bluegrass, Béla Bartók and much more.
