Tasting Friday 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Tonight we'll taste a Cab Franc from Italy, a Gamay from France, a Zinfandel from California, and a Malbec from the magic hills of Argentina. Bring your friends and family down to Pettyjohn's and start your weekend off right.
Scarpetta Cab Franc:
Cabernet Franc came to Friuli-Venezia Giulia about the time of Napoleon — so it has been there with Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc for hundreds of years. In the right zones like the Colli Orientali, Cabernet Franc has a chance to be wonderfully herbaceous, have delicate tannins and to be an incredibly complex red wine.
Vin Sauvage a Poil:
A fruity, pure and mineral wine with violet floral notes, a hint of dark berry fruits (blackberries, redcurrants) and a black pepper finish. The tannins are well-blended in the mouth with a balance on the fresh side. Pair with: Grilled red meat, game and Burgundy Chesses. Ideally, decanter it an hour before serving. VEGGIE : Pan-fried vegetables with chestnuts.
Peachy Canyon Westside Zin:
Paso Robles, Central Coast, CA- Aromas of dark berry, vanilla, toasty oak, and hint of menthol and forest. Tastes of a rounded mouthfeel with good bright acidity, sweet dark fruit, caramel, and smokiness. A long juicy finish.
MDZ Malbec:
The nose comes alive with hints of mocha, blueberry, cherries, and rose petals that lead to a rich texture held up by a good structure and smooth tannins. This fruit-driven wine showcases boysenberry, blackberry, cocoa and cola nut flavors on the palate. The finish is long and smooth with hints of dried herbs and cedar that encapsulate the bright and vibrant wine. Bottled unoaked.
