TOWARD the LIGHT: the JOYFUL ART of MARLENIS HIDALGO
It's dark and getting colder, so time to join curator Ana Weir at Ana's Art Gallery for a warming show of new works of oil on canvas by Uruyguan-based artist Marlenis Hidalgo. These series of paintings portray the joy that can be found in even the darkest of time of the year. The self-taught Hidalgo, painting in the tradition of American folk artist Grandma Moses, focuses on the exuberant side of life, with scenes of everyday life, such as a couple holding hands, flying elephants, and playing children, with a touch of magical realism that brings out the extraordinary that is found in even the seemingly most common daily events of life. The show runs through the end of the year.
