Name: TRANSFORMATIVE STORIES AT CU BOULDER’S TRANSFORMING GENDER CONFERENCE
Date: March 16, 2024
Time: 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM MDT
Event Description:

In this special presentation from Motus Theater’s TRANSformative Stories project, David Breña (he/him) and Alison Reba (they/them) take center stage to share their stories, define their own lives, revel in their self-love, and inspire change. The performance features a musical response from award-winning CU Boulder alum, cellist and composer Nelson Walker (they/them). The performance will be followed by a talkback with the artists.

Alison Reba is a Black Trans butterfly, sibling, community organizer and healing justice practitioner who centers relationship building as a means to transform ourselves and our communities. Their monologue, “Shapeshifting,” is a cosmic exploration of nature's vast ever-transforming essence and yet the social expectations that gender must be fixed and checked off in simple boxes of “girl”, “boy”, or “nonbinary.”

David Breña is a bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural professional therapist (MSW) and is passionate about fostering and advocating for the mental and physical health of marginalized communities. He is also an improv artist with Motus Playback Theater. His monologue entitled, “It is that Simple,” explores the denial and fear of being trans that he experienced on his way to recognizing himself as a beloved of God who, despite the threats he faces, will be a happy man.
