Mountain Sky Conference of the United Methodist Church invites you to a virtual Zoom presentation from Motus Theater’s Welcoming the Stranger series. In these performances, Motus Theater asks church and lay leaders to step into the shoes of Motus autobiographical monologists who are undocumented. Their monologues interrupt the dehumanizing and racist anti-immigrant narratives. Arvada City Council Member, Randy Moorman and Wyoming District Superintendent, Mountain Sky Conference of the UMC, Rev. Mark Calhoun, will be reading aloud Laura Peniche's story of migration and reflecting on climate change in relationship to immigration.
The reading will be followed by both personal and theological reflections on the importance of sacred hospitality, the impact of stepping into the shoes of an undocumented neighbor, and the relation between climate change and immigration. A cappella singer Teresita Lozano offers a musical response to Laura’s monologue.
This performance is part of Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories project and our Welcoming the Stranger series - a collaboration with faith leaders who express moral courage and civic hospitality as they read aloud the story of an undocumented person and reflect both personally and theologically on seeing the world through the eyes of an immigrant.
Sponsored by The Mountain Sky Conference of The UMC, as part of their Just Love Series.
Autobiographical monologue by Motus Monologist Laura Peniche written in collaboration with Motus Theater Artistic Director, Kirsten Wilson. Performance presented by Motus Theater - creators of UndocuAmerica, JustUs, Women of Resolution, Rocks Karma Arrows, and the Shoebox Stories Podcast.
