Boulder Chamber Announces 2017 Honorees for Women Who Light the Community
Boulder, CO {July 24, 2017} The Boulder Chamber has announced the honorees for the 2017 Women Who Light the Community event and celebration on September 6. The Boulder Chamber Business Women's Leadership Group (BWLG) annually honors women who have made significant contributions through innovations and a committed effort to address a meaningful business or non-profit, arts or community need, locally, regionally, nationally, or globally.
“This event gives us the chance to celebrate outstanding women in our community and to recognize their many contributions and inspiring leadership,” stated John Tayer, President and CEO of the Boulder Chamber. “They’ve earned our admiration and demonstrated the importance of women leadership to our economy and community.”
This year’s honorees are:
Allison Barto – Barto is Ball Aerospace’s Program Manager for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. She has received accolades for her contributions to the YWCA of Boulder County and dedication to the development of their many education initiatives. Barto has further exemplified her commitment to youth STEM education through her tenure as a mentor for the “I Have a Dream” program and NCAR’s Engineering Experiences.
Pam Malzbender – Malzbender has served as Past President of Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County, she is currently Co-Chair of Zonta's educateZ project. Within this role, she has gone above and beyond her responsibilities with the Zonta organization in creating several mentorship and educational programs aimed at supporting multi-cultural youth and education in Boulder County.
Janet Martin – As a long-standing board member with Boulder Community Health, Martin has received overwhelming praise and admiration from her colleagues, the BCH staff and community for her unrelenting dedication to the mission of the organization and commitment to the welfare of the people.
Elvira Ramos – In her role as Vice President of Programs and Inclusive Leadership with the Boulder County Community Foundation, Elvira has dedicated herself to creating relevant conversations that include people of color and creative opportunities for a diverse population. She has dedicated countless hours to a great number of organizations in her pursuit for social justice and equality and serves as a leader within the Latino community.
Kathy Valentine – Valentine is the Executive Director for Colie’s Closet, a completely volunteer-run 501(C)3 and Boulder Valley School District-approved peer education organization focused on suicide prevention and awareness. Within the last eleven years under her leadership, the organization has reached thousands of adolescents throughout the state, creating healthy dialogue and providing education and support for both adolescents and parents.
Naomi Graff – As a high school senior at New Vista High School, Graff was selected as the 2017 Emerging Leader for her selfless nature and genuine desire to assist her community. In addition to her involvement with the Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance, Natural Highs and the Self Love group she leads at her school, Graff is also facilitating outreach efforts in areas of Nepal impacted by recent flooding and earthquakes. Her focus is always on uplifting her community and spreading positivity, no matter the context.
