'Innovation HQ' Design Takes Shape

The new headquarters to spur collaboration across businesses, nonprofits, and local government to help the region build a long-term competitive advantage

May 2, 2014--BOULDER—Boulder Chamber leaders and CU Boulder architecture students unveiled plans to build an Innovation HQ on Thursday – a multi-tenant nonprofit center to better support local entrepreneurs and to sustain the economy. Seven teams presented designs for the project, highlighting the opportunity to advance Boulder’s leadership as a hub of innovation.

The proposed 15,000 square foot headquarters is being considered as part of the Civic Area redevelopment plan in central Boulder. City officials participated in the architectural review process. A dozen nonprofit organizations have already expressed interest in the project. The vision is a key part of the Boulder Chamber-led Innovation Blueprint 3.0.

“Boulder is a global innovation leader,” said John Tayer, Boulder Chamber CEO, “but we need to improve collaboration across organizations to help the region build a long-term competitive advantage. The Innovation HQ will provide a one-stop service to better support local businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.”

The open floor designs featured flexible meeting spaces, efficient use of space, abundant natural light, energy efficient design, and renewable energy systems. Designs were structured to foster collaboration across organizations on efforts to strengthen Boulder’s innovation economy.
